Over the years I had gone in and out of writing songs, but “Tried” came during a season of quiet conviction in the middle of my South Florida years. On the outside, life felt full — friends, movement, and constant noise — yet internally I was beginning to recognize the gap between who I was and who I believed I was meant to be. There were nights when everything slowed down and I felt the weight of missed opportunities to stand for something greater. “Tried” is not a song of resolution; it’s a confession. It captures the humility of admitting I had fallen short while still calling out to God, hoping that even in my weakness, the desire to try still mattered.
